Eddy Dominant in Turn One 75 at Birch Run Speedway

BIRCH RUN, Mich. – Travis Eddy completed his Michigan sweep in dominant fashion after winning the Turn One 75 for the NSTA Top Speed Modified Tour at Birch Run Speedway on Friday night.

Eddy was 8th fastest in qualifying and turned the luck of the inversion into a third place start in the main event.

Joey Morisette from Port Huron, Michigan would start things off by leading the field to the green flag, but it was David McManus of Eaton Rapids, Michigan who held the lead by the time lap one was in the books. McManus showed his extensive experience at the track holding off a charge from Travis Eddy and Turn One Rookie points leader Loren Short for more than 20 laps.

After a restart on lap 24, Eddy would use the outside line to take the lead away from McManus. From there, Eddy turned on the burners and showed the same strength as he did in the previous event at Kalamazoo Speedway. Eddy would drive the distance and claim his second win on the 2017 Kickin’ Asphalt Tour.

McManus brought his modified home in second place, while Sean McPherson charged from 12th on the grid to the final podium spot. Joey Morisette rebounded to finish fourth, and Greg Fullarton completed an all Michigan top five.

The event marked a new era, the former Dixie Motor Speedway celebrated its grand re-opening as Birch Run Speedway. 32 modifieds were on hand to compete. Laci Donnert won a 20-lap last chance race to lock into the Turn One 75, and Fullarton was the quickest qualifier with a lap of 89.302 miles per hour around the sweeping D-shaped track.

The Tour will be in action this Friday July 21, at the legendary Toledo Speedway. The toughest modified drivers in the region will battle one of the toughest tracks in the country.
