Desoto Speedway
For the fourth time this season Tampa's Dave Steele found his way to victory lane as The BG Products Southern Sprint Car Series presented by Trufuel came to Desoto Speedway for the final time this racing season. Steele set a blistering pace earlier on in the evening by rocketing to the front and winning his heat race and he carried it onto the feature. Steele picked up his twelfth victory of the season and his fourth at the 3/8 ,mile high banked oval in dominating fashion. Steele got by Scott Adema and checked out on the rest of the 18 car field. Steele was looking to pick up his 98th career win tonight in Florida Sprint car racing, and he didn't disappoint. While Steele checked out from the rest of the field, great battles ensued behind him over the course of the 30 lap feature that went caution free and finished in just under 7 minutes. Mickey Kempgens of Tampa, FL bobbed and weaved in and out of traffic and patiently waited to make his move to take the second spot away from Scott Adema and held off a furious attack in the closing laps finish second behind Steele. Scott Adema held onto third place holding off a late race charge by John Inman who finished fourth and Dude Teate rounded out the top five in front of an enthusiastic crowd under the lights.
In other racing action, Donnie Ollie Jr. won the 30 lap Sportsman feature holding off Brooke Storer in 2nd and Tom Zimmerman in third. With Storer finishing second and Roger Welch coming home fourth, the two drivers are tied for the points lead with the season finale double points 50 lap feature coming up on December 3rd. Venice's Kenny Gibson picked up his third win of the season in the Take Aim Gun Range Street Stocks feature. Gibson held of Danny Caylor who was glued to Gibson's back bumper for the majority of the closing laps. Caylor held on for second finishing ahead of Jeff Firestine who rounded out the top 3. Points leader Blaine Baer extended his points lead and claimed another checkered flag in the LKQ Pick Your Part Pure Stocks. Baer just returned from visiting his daughter in Texas who had recently joined the Air Force to score the victory. Logan Leonard took second but was DQ'd in post race tech, so second went to Darrin Ellis and J.R. Fitch was third. Darrin Ellis captured another checkered flag in the Pep Boys Speed shop Modified Minis finishing ahead of Fred Paravicini and Dave Davis both from Bradenton. Carl Thompson Jr. won the Bomber's feature over Stuart Vandevender and Doug Radley. Jimmy Wilkins captured another checkered flag for the T.Q. Midgets and Ren Wright Jr. won the final Mini Stock feature of the season. Cape Coral's Johnny Marra won his second consecutive Championship for the Mini Stock division.
Desoto Speedway will be closed this coming weekend November 12th but returns to action Saturday night November 19th. On tap will be the DARTS Turkey Shootout 100 lap Pro Truck Season finale along with Outlaw Modified's, Legends, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Bombers.
