SAPULPA, Okla. (October 17, 2016) What started off as a fairly solid weekend with a sixth place finish to open up the 43rd Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network went bust in an instant for Blake Hahn, who found himself flipping violently down the front stretch of the Devil’s Bowl on Saturday night.

First recapping Friday, a pair of fourth place finishes in Heat and Qualifier competition put Blake sixth on the A-Feature starting grid. Advancing into fourth on Lap 19, the transfer into Saturday’s feature looked to be in hand, but a red with four laps to run changed the game.

“The car was solid and would pretty much go anywhere I wanted, but when the red came out, it let the right rear bleed down and as tacky as the track was, there was nowhere to buzz the tires to get the pressure back up so on the restart, we were too tight and that let Swindell and Covington get a run on me,” explained Hahn.

On to Saturday, Hahn rushed from sixth to second in his Heat Race. Putting him starting fifth in the opening Qualifier, Hahn was to third and running down second, but contact between Hahn and Martin Edwards sent the No. 52 careening down the front stretch.

“It’s just one of those deals. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, just close racing,” said Hahn.

Surveying the damage to the Lucas Oil/CSR Garage No. 52, a new car is already going together as the team prepares for the Fall Fling at Creek County Speedway on November 4 and 5.

“The car is junk. We actually flipped so hard it bent the intake stacks on the engine but thankfully, Jerry Russell builds one heck of a car. We’ve already got the spare car down to get it ready for Creek. Depending on time and the weather, we may go up to Salina, Kan. this weekend and run with the NCRA to make sure everything is good to go.”

For sure on Hahn’s schedule this week will be the Jason Leffler Memorial at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL.

“I’m ready to get back in the Midget and see what we can do. Last year I think we ended up making it to the B-Main at the Leffler Memorial so this year’s goal is the A-Main.”
