SAPULPA, Okla. (July 6, 2016) Contact with the wall wasn’t the way Blake Hahn envisioned the start of the Fred Brownfield Classic at Elma’s Grays Harbor Raceway, but a broken Tie Rod bolt was all it took to sail the Lucas Oil No. 52 into the concrete during Friday’s Hot Laps.

“The car just got erratic all the sudden and before I could save it, we were into the wall,” said Hahn. “Luckily, it didn’t cause a lot of damage. The worst part was it did kick the right front of the frame over a little bit, but we were able to pull it out.”

Having to advance through a B-Main, Hahn ended up with a 13th place finish in Friday’s A-Main.

“The car was actually pretty good, but we were fighting the engine all night. It ran perfect at Skagit, and the air wasn’t far off from that so we’re not sure if the hit caused something or what, but it we were having a lot of trouble keep the car cool.”

Going over the fuel and cooling system prior to Saturday’s finale, Hahn again chased an overheating problem, but was much happier with the car’s handling.

“Once we were able to really go over the car an fix what happened Friday, the car felt really good but you had to be in position to pass on Saturday. The track was a lot drier and it started taking rubber on entry towards the end, so you had to have a big run to move forward.”

Even with the track narrowing, Hahn posted his 23rd top-ten of the 2016 season.

Looking forward to a new track this coming weekend, Hahn will follow the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network to the Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. for the Grizzly Nationals on Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9.
