Hahn Captures Hometown Win With ASCS Red River Region
SAPULPA, Okla. (May 25, 2016) A productive weekend for Blake Hahn, as the Oklahoma shoe picked up his second overall win of the 2016 season this past weekend as the Lucas Oil Products/CSR Garage No. 52 team squared off against the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Product.
Hahn’s first Sprint Car victory of the year, to go along with his ECOtec Midget score at the Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout, the victory came on Friday, May 20 at the Creek County Speedway, in Sapulpa, Okla.
“First off, I have to hand it to the track crew. I live maybe a mile from the track and we’ve had rain all week, and no almost no sun so the Pits were a mess, but they got us in instead of just calling off the race with all the teams sitting in the parking lot.”
As wet at the Pits were, the track was no different as the quarter-mile surface was very tacky and fast all night.
“We drew towards the back of our Heat and as tight and tacky as the track was, you had to make something happen in the first couple laps, or hope the people in front of you missed the line. It was unfortunate that we had a couple guy get upside down, but it allowed us move forward enough to make the redraw.”
Coming out with the last position to redraw, Hahn drew the pole in Friday’s 25 lap feature event.
“Everything just really worked in our favor on the draw,” said Hahn. “On the first start, Jason McDougal got the jump but we had a caution so we had to do a complete restart. When we got going again, I was careful not to allow him the room because he was going to be tough to get around if he got the chance.”
Surviving a myriad of cautions and stops in the A-Feature, Hahn led non-stop for the $2,000 score.
“It’s always great to win a Creek. It’s my hometrack so my friends and family are always there when we come to race.”
Traveling south to Lawton Speedway on Saturday night, Hahn was the low draw for the pole of the opening Heat Race. Winning without challenge, the redraw again went Blake’s way with a fourth place start spot.
“The track was really narrow in the Heat, but for the Feature, it had widened out and you could run top and bottom if you need to and that made for a fun race. I really thought we had another win, but Wayne made the right move at the right time. Finishing second to Wayne Johnson is certainly nothing to be down about. He’s done this a long time, and is one of the best.”
Up next for Hahn is two nights with the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region presented by Southern Trailer Works at two Lanny Edwards’ owned facilities, starting with the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas on Friday, May 27. This is Blake’s first trip to the quarter-mile oval. Saturday, May 28, the Gulf South Region will headline at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Sunday will be a travel day as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network readies for races in Indiana and Michigan next week.
