A Thriller Of A Win For Wayne Johnson At Lawton Speedway

LAWTON, Okla. (May 21, 2016) Look up awesome in the Dictionary, and you’ll find the race between Wayne Johnson and Blake Hahn at the Lawton Speedway on May 21, 2016 has been added to the definition, as the rising star was schooled by the veteran in the closing laps to pocket the night’s $2,000 winner’s check with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

Kicking off the night’s 25 lap A-Feature, Harli White led early from the pole with Hahn giving chase. Holding off several challenges from the No. 52, White lost the handle on her No. 17w on Lap 8, dropping to third as Hahn and Johnson drove by.

Working through heavy lapped traffic, the pair stalked, slid, and worked every angle possible for the slightest advantage with Johnson taking his No. 2c to the point on Lap 14, but it was short lived as Hahn reclaimed the top spot three laps later.

With slower traffic starting to clear, it looked like clear sailing as Wayne was unable to make up a nearly six car length deficit, but the final lapped car was the game changer.

Building a full head of steam as Blake found his path blocked for a moment by Fred Mattox in the No. 26m, Johnson rolled the dice off the second turn; going tree wide through the middle with Hahn and Mattox.

Giving no room for error, Johnson stormed the cushion entering turn three to lead the final four revolutions.

Blake Hahn finished second for a one/two finish on the weekend with Matt Covington making it to the final podium step. Brandon Long crossed forth with Brandon Hanks completing the top-five.

Having to come from the back of the B-Main to transfer, Jason McDougal stormed from 17th to sixth with John Carney II coming from 16th to seventh. Alex Sewell, Joe Bob Lee, and Harli White rounded out the top-ten.

The next event for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products will be the kick off to the ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek at the Rt. 66 Speedway in Amarillo, Texas on Saturday, June 11 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
