Rollie Beale Classic April 30 at Toledo; Leary Scores 1st USAC National Victory in Sumar Classic!

The Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness “Rollie Beale Classic” at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway on April 30 is next up for the USAC Silver Crown Championship cars following their 2016 debut Sunday at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track. The Toledo race will mark the fifth appearance of the series there and defending winner Kody Swanson (2015 and 2011) and Jerry Coons Jr. (2012 and 2010) are the only previous winners.

Swanson sits third in the series standings after his third-place finish at Terre Haute, while Coons is ninth. Swanson is seeking a record third consecutive title while Coons is seeking his second championship after winning the 2008 crown.

Justin Grant, by virtue of his runner-up finish, ProSource fast qualifying time and most laps led at Terre Haute, holds a three-point lead over Terre Haute race winner C.J. Leary entering the Toledo fray.

Leary, of Greenfield, Ind., earned his initial USAC National feature victory in Sunday’s “Sumar Classic,” passing Grant exiting turn four on lap 94 and leading the final seven circuits in his Leary Construction/AMSOIL DRC/Claxton. Grant, who led the first 93 laps from the pole, finished second ahead of Swanson, Brady Bacon and Chris Windom.

The victory gives car owner 6R Racing their 28th series triumph, one shy of Tony Stewart Racing’s all-time series record of 29 wins.

Bryan Clauson grabbed Sunday’s KSE/Martens Machine Shop “Hard Charger” award for advancing six positions from his 14th-place starting position to finish eighth at the checkered flag.
