Angell Park Hosts 34th "Pepsi Nationals" Sunday Night

Three-time “Pepsi Nationals” winner Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. is among favorites for this Sunday night’s 34th running of one of America’s most prestigious Midget races. The event is co-sanctioned by USAC, POWRi and Badger.

Hines leads the 2015 Honda USAC National standings and won the 2001, 2002 and 2010 “Pepsi Nationals.” He has a nine-point lead over Kevin Thomas Jr. and Tyler Thomas, who are tied in the standings. A championship would give Hines the elusive final leg of USAC’s “Triple Crown” and make him only the sixth driver in history to claim that distinction.

Darren Hagen tops the POWRi points and Billy Balog sits atop the Badger standings entering this Sunday’s race.

Sunday’s night’s main event is 30 laps around the one-third mile dirt oval located near Madison, Wisc.

Angell Park has long been a staple for USAC competitors. Larry Rice won the USAC inaugural at Angell Park in 1970 and a total of 36 drivers have been victorious in the 58 USAC races held to date.

Christopher Bell won last year’s “Pepsi Nationals” after claiming the 2013 USAC National title.

2015 AMSOIL USAC National Midget Car Standings: 1-Tracy Hines-304, 2-Kevin Thomas Jr.-295, 2-Tyler Thomas-295, Jerry Coons Jr.-287, 5-Darren Hagen-266, 6-Rico Abreu-257, 7-Spencer Bayston-250, 8-Tanner Thorson-218, 9-Dave Darland-159, 10-Christopher Bell-152.
