Kids Night at Winston Speedway Crowns Seven Feature Winners

Rothbury, Michigan (Friday, June 26th, 2015): The fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high-banked dirt oval of the Winston Speedway just west of Rothbury, Michigan hosted its annual kids night featuring bike-giveaway’s, and much much more. The Racing program was headlined by a Bomber special presented by Grease Monkeys of Montague, as well as a Four-Cylinder Warrior special. The Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Michigan Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Young Guns were on hand as well to perform in front of the packed grandstands.

15-Year old Gabe Flores scored the victory in the first event of the night which was the 12-lap Young Guns feature event. Ronnie VanNatter started on the pole position alongside Flores to start the race. VanNatter would take the lead off the start, but his car would suffer damage after being involved in a caution, which gave the lead over to Flores who took off and never looked backed from there going on to get his third win of the year. 16-Year old Chelsey Allen finished second. 13-year old Madison Crane, 15-year old Heidi Barnhard, and VanNatter rounded out the top five. VanNatter won the Heat race.

The Bombers made their way out next for their 20-lap special presented by Grease Monkeys of Montague. Evan Shotko and Kevin Rake made up the front row. Shotko jumped out front with the early advantage after the green flag dropped. However on the very next lap he was passed by fellow rookie Morgan Smith. She would hold the top spot until lap 4, where the defending track champion Dan Wilson Jr. would power his way to front of the pack. He would take command from there and he would go on to pick up the win.

This was the 3rd win of the season for the Muskegon, Michigan native behind the wheel of his A&A Manufacturing #57. Mike Epplett finished just behind in second after starting 17th. Robb Sternberg, Mike Fekken, and Shotko made up the top five. The heat wins went to Wilson and Nate Trick.

The 15-lap A-Main for the Michigan Dirt Modified Feature made its way out led by Steve McClees and Josh Grabe. McClees would lead lap 1. He would hold that position until lap 4 where he would see Grabe successfully complete the pass for the lead, and Grabe would never look back as he would unchallenged from there to make the trip to victory lane.
The 34-year old Muskegon, Michigan driver picked up his fourth victory of the year in his Grabe Well-Drilling #G5. McClees was forced to settle for second. Derek Poland, and Ted Cooper Completed the field. McClees won the heat.

The Four-Cylinder Warrior Special was out next Katie Whelpley and Brian Hammond were on the front row for the 15-lap feature. The green flag waved and it was Buck Spencer grabbing the early lead. However on lap 4 he would be challenged by Ryan Hamm who would take over the race lead. Once Hamm got out front he would go on to lead the entire remainder of the event to pick up the win.

The driver who calls Muskegon, Michigan home earned his first win of the year in the ASAP Towing #14. Spencer finished second. Hammond, 17-year old Kristina Johnson, and Melissa Sprague completed the top five. Hamm and Spencer won the heat races.

The high-powered Late Models hit the track next for a 25-lap main event led by two time track champion Tom Sprague Jr. and Jeramy Lange. Sprague took the early advantage, and would hold a command race lead through lap 16. That was when the caution flag would come out, and during which Sprague would suffer mechanical issues and was forced to surrender the race lead over to Kyle Borgman. Borgman would go on to take home the checkered flag.

This was the first win of the season for the 26-year old Muskegon, Michigan driver of the Borgman’s Tree Service #72. Alan Vochaska was the runner up finisher. C.J. Heskett, Kevin Nelson Jr., and Kenny Wilson finished off the top five. The heat race victories went to Vochaksa and Sprague.

Mark Farber and Josh Sternberg led out the 20-lap Street Stock A-Main. Sternberg wasted little time in the getting out front for the lead. That would turn out to be all the work that was necessary as he went on to pick up the win after leading every single lap of the race. The driver of the R&R Graphics #83 out of Muskegon, Michigan picked up his first win of the season. Chuck Smith was the second place finisher. 2013-track champion Sadie Klein, Derek Poland, and Farber capped off the top five.

Finally, The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds made their way out for what was a 15-lap feature event. The front row of Kevin Cavanaugh and Jeff Erickson Jr. led the field down to the drop of the green flag. Jeff Erickson Jr. found his way to the front of the field early, and took control. He would go unchallenged in being the first to the checkered flag.

The 26-year old Muskegon, Michigan driver drove to his fourth win of the year behind the wheel of his Salon One #1E. Aaron Morey finished just behind in second. Cavanaugh, Steve McClees, and Chris Barton rounded out the top five. Erickson was also the winner of the lone heat race.
