Danny Lasoski Capitalizes on Henderson’s Misfortune at Knoxville!

Danny Lasoski chalked up with #104 in his career at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night. Justin Henderson was leading late when a nose piece from his car came up and blocked his vision, causing him to stop. Lasoski assumed the lead and roared to victory in the 410 class. Clint Garner registered his 21st career win in the 360 class, and Devin Kline won his fifth career feature in the 305 class. Heavy rainfall at 5:30 p.m. caused events to be delayed until hot laps at 9 p.m.

Ian Madsen shot out from the pole to lead early in the 20-lap 410 feature with Henderson and Lasoski in tow. Henderson gained on the leader and shot around him in lapped traffic on lap seven. A lap later, Brian Brown, who was running fourth, tangled with a lapped car and turned over. He was o.k., but done for the night.

The restart saw Henderson leading Madsen, Lasoski, Davey Heskin and Lynton Jeffrey. Jeffrey sprung into fourth on the restart. Lasoski shot under Madsen on lap 13 into second. Henderson pulled away, maneuvering through lapped traffic with ease. On lap 18, the nose piece flew up into his vision and caused him to slow to a stop in turn one.

Lasoski assumed the lead on the restart ahead of Madsen, Jeffrey, Heskin and Brooke Tatnell and pulled away to victory. Madsen finished second, ahead of Jeffrey, Tatnell and Heskin. Bronson Maeschen, Terry McCarl, Josh Schneiderman, hard-charger Dustin Selvage and Craig Dollansky completed the top ten. Henderson set quick time, while Christopher Bell, Dakota Hendrickson and Brian Brown won heat races. Glen Saville suffered a wicked crash in the third heat race, but was uninjured.

“He was going good,” said Lasoski in Victory Lane in reference to Henderson. “He drove by us. Tonight it was better to be lucky than good. The track did a phenomenal job of getting this race in. I want to thank the fans for sticking this one out.”

Clint Garner led the 18-lap feature distance from his starting spot outside of row one in the 360 feature. Nate Van Haaften and Justin Henderson completed the top three early. Russ Hall stopped while running tenth with a lap in the books. Two laps later, Jon Agan tipped over in turn four bringing the red flag out.

Garner led Van Haaften, Henderson, Calvin Landis and Joe Beaver back to green flag racing. Henderson quickly moved into second, while Beaver drove by Landis into fourth. The final caution of the race would come out with five laps complete. Jamie Ball came to a stop in turn four.

Garner would lead the final thirteen laps with Henderson and Van Haaften in tow. Beaver finished fourth ahead of Landis. Matt Moro, Dustin Clark, Ryan Giles, Tony Shilling and Sawyer Phillips rounded out the top ten. Henderson set quick time, while Russ Hall, Randy Martin and Phillips won the heats.

“My target is Justin Henderson,” said Garner in Victory Lane in reference to him being the same for his competitors. “In a way we’re teammates. We both have Parker engines, and we’re able to bounce things off each other. You know when we’re racing, it will be clean.”

Before a lap could be completed in the 305 feature, Josh Jones found himself upside down in turn one. He was uninjured. Matthew Stelzer broke out to an early lead in the 12-lapper. He led McKenna Haase, Christian Bowman, Devin Kline and new one-lap track record holder, Trevor Smith back to green after a lap two caution for Kade Higday.

Kline jumped to third, while Stacey Alexander moved up two spots into fourth. Disaster struck for Stelzer when he stopped at the halfway point. Haase assumed the lead, but Kline shot around her quickly when her machine began to falter. On lap eight, Bowman moved into second, followed by Alexander. While Kline separated himself from the field, those two exchanged the runner-up spot twice.

Kline shot out from the field after one final caution for Corey Kautz set up a green, white, checker finish. Bowman would end up second, ahead of Alexander, Smith and Jeff Wilke. Kevin Hetrick, Brad Comegys, Mitchell Alexander, Ben Woods and Joe Simbro completed the top ten. Smith set a new one-lap 305 track record in qualifying at 16.820 seconds. Wilke, Stacey Alexander and Simbro won heat races.
