Josh Schneiderman – Making the Show!

Rain, fog and moths descended on the Knoxville Raceway and the World of Outlaws on Saturday. At the end of the night, Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team had made the show in the 42-car field and put the car back in the trailer in one piece. This Saturday, come rain or shine the team will be ready for more action at Knoxville.

The WoO is implementing a new two-flight format for time trials. Josh would time in 12th quick in the first flight. “The new format is definitely different,” he says. “It’s hard to figure out who it will benefit the most. On Saturday, it didn’t really hurt us, or help us. We still struggled a little bit in qualifying. We’re still working on that aspect. We don’t have our finger on it the way we’d like.”

The inconsistency in qualifying isn’t just a problem for the #49 team. “Everyone has been inconsistent with the exception of a couple of cars,” says Josh. “Most everyone has been up some weeks and down others.”

Josh ran well in his heat race. Starting sixth, he surged into the fifth and final transfer spot for the main event. “We got a great jump at the start,” he says. “We were really good in the heat race. We were a little better than Steve (Kinser). We just couldn’t find a way around him. I knew we were in a transfer spot, so there was no reason to do a bonsai move or anything crazy. The most important thing when the Outlaws are there is to put the thing in the show.”

Then the rains came. A three and a half hour delay ensued. The fog showed up when cars pushed off for the feature. “It was definitely interesting,” says Josh. “The racetrack did everything they could to get it in. I commend their efforts. I saw the fog rolling in during the four-wide. I said to myself, ‘I don’t remember them saying anything about fireworks.’ Then I realized it was fog.”

Josh decided to live and fight another day. “It was unbearable, especially where we were starting in back,” he says of the fog. “It wasn’t worth tearing a car up over. It was so humid that your helmet could fog over too. The race doesn’t pay extra until about 15th, so we called it a weekend.”
