Winston Speedway Kicks Off The 2015 Season With a Full 7 in 1 Show

Montague, Michigan (Friday, April 17th, 2015): The Michigan dirt track racing season began this past Friday night with the 2015 opening night at the Winston Speedway located just off US-31 north of Muskegon. The stellar crowd that was on hand was treated to a full 7 in 1 show headlined by the UMP DIRTcar Late Models and UMP DIRTcar Modifieds. The Michigan Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks, Bombers, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns were also in action. It was also best appearing car contest where the best looking cars were awarded during the night’s festivities.

The nights feature events began with the Young Guns 12-lap main event. When the checkered flag dropped it was Gabe Flores making the trip to victory lane. This was the young Twin Lake, Michigan driver’s first career win. Ronnie VanNatter finished as the runner up. Madison Crane, Hannah Zwart, and Chelsey Allen completed the top five. Flores also won the heat race.

The Bombers competed in their 15-lap feature event where Rob Sternberg was able to hold off his competition to bring home the first win of the season. Mike DeJonge finished second. Kevin Rake, Josh Grabe, and Evan Shotko rounded out the top five. DeJonge was the winner of the lone heat race.

Muskegon, Michigan native Chuck Smith was the winner of the 20-lap Street Stock feature. He finished ahead of Robbie Sternberg who was forced to settle for second. Mark Faber, defending track champion Josh Frye, and Derek Poland made up the top five. Frye and Smith won the heats.

The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds squared off in a heated 25-lap main event. When the dust was settled the victory went to Jeff Erickson Jr. The defending track champion David Mielke finished just behind in second. Collin Thirlby, Travis Stemler, and Steve McClees capped off the top five. The preliminary heat races were won by Erickson and Mielke.

The UMP DIRTcar Late Models saw Lake City, Michigan native Eric Spangler go green to checkered leading every lap to take home the checkered flag. Finishing second was the defending track champion Rich Neiser. Tom Sprague Jr., Greg Gokey, and Bill Bray finished off the top five. the heats were won by Scott Phillips and Neiser.

The new Michigan Dirt Modified class competed in the first feature event ever at Winston Speedway. The victory was captured by Steve McClees. Rob Putt was the runner up. A.J. Ward and Josh Grabe completed the field.

Mike Goodwin conquered the Four-Cylinder Warriors feature getting the win by beating out Brian Hammond who finished just behind in second. Buck Spencer, Gary Larabee, and Chad Tomczak rounded out the top five.
