"Hooker Hood/NSCHoF Southern Supermodified Racers' Reunion" to Come Alive at Mobile on April 11

The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Musuem in Knoxville, Iowa, is pleased to be able to help support the second annual “Hooker Hood/National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Southern Supermodified Racers’ Reunion” at the Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, Alabama, on Saturday, April 11, in conjunction with the United States Auto Club (USAC) King of the Wing sprint car races. USAC fans will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with a variety of legendary stars and historic cars right out of the pages of the Mid-South region’s motorsports history book.

Amongst those that have indicated that they will be joining Clarence “Hooker” Hood’s widow Carolyn are Freddy Fryar, Hugh Richards, “Buddy” Bielarski, J.D. Parker, Dickie Davis, Charles “Red” Farmer, “Skip” Manning and the Mississippi dirt-tracking brothers Terry and Marty Broadus. In addition, former Jackson Speedway promoter “Mack” Gillis and car-builders Johnny Ardis, Bill Hite and Andy Anderson will be on-hand.

On display will be the following legendary vintage cars: Ellis Palasini’s #V-8 “Black Widow” super-modified, J.D. Parker’s #12 CAE sprint car, the #R1 supermodified wheeled by Little 500 Hall of Famer Bill Roynon, the Saik Brothers’ #44 driven by Ival Cooper and Armond Holley, the Wayne Niedecken #99 offset roadster, the Jimmy Riddle #3x, and “Hooker” Hood’s famed #99 (which won 56 races in 1967).

Helping coordinate the “Hooker Hood/National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Southern Supermodified Racers’ Reunion” at the half-mile, high-banked Mobile International Speedway on Saturday, April 11, is historian and author Tony Martin of Pensacola, Florida. Practice begins at 3 p.m. that day, with racing scheduled for 7 p.m. Some of the beautifully restored race cars will make demonstration laps that evening, with driver interviews conducted for the fans in attendance. Those seeking more information on the day’s events are encouraged to visit www.mobilespeedway.net.
