The final leg of the 2014 Wild West Modified Speedweek would be a great one as Willamette Speedway would host the event on Saturday July 26th. A total of thirty IMCA Modifieds would sign in on the registration sheets representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, and North Dakota. Big thanks go out to the folks at Willamette Speedway and X-Factor Race Cars for putting up the extra bonus to make the race $2,000.00 to win.

Late Model standout Greg Walters of Banks would lead the opening lap in the Robert Duncan owned Duncan Automotive/Dancin’ Bare Gentleman’s Club/Somers Racing Engines #09 Pierce. A caution would occur right after the completion of lap one resulting in the field getting bunched back up. On the restart the Discount Race Car Parts/Gordy Lee Photography/Frisbie Motorsports/Bessette Family Racing #SW Shaw by Jeff Taylor driven by Collen WInebarger from Corbett would seize the lead on lap two.

Winebarger was quick for much of the first half of the race but he would be passed on lap fourteen by Alex Stanford of Chowchilla, California. Stanford, in his Stanford Chopping/Golden Memorial Insurance/J&R Restaurant Equipment/Borba Ranch #98 Precision would set sale for much of the remainder of the distance.

Just when Stanford seemed untouchable a caution for debris on lap twenty-five would be presented bunching the field one final time. Stanford would lead at the drop of the green but before too long Williston, North Dakota’s Travis Peery would bring some pressure.

Peery would catch Stanford and beat him to the line on lap thirty-two only for Stanford to seize it back on lap thirty-three. Stanford would lead the rest of the distance to score his third win of the 2014 Wild West Modified Speedweek while also securing the Mod Speedweek title. Stanford is the first non-Oregon champion to wear the crown.

Travis Peery would place the Susan River Reality/SRD Construction/Precision Chassis Development #6P Precision in second as well as earning a free barrel of fuel courtesy of Renegade Race Fuel and Tyree Oil in addition to the X-Factor Race Cars Hard Charger bonus. The S.D.M.F. Race Cars/Mid Valley Metals/F.M. Jones & Sons Quality Truck and Autos/K.C Race Engines #ZERO S.D.M.F. of Eugene chauffeur Jesse Williamson was third for car owner Dustin Comer as well as receiving a giveaway tire from X-Factor Race Cars. The balance of the top five would consist of Collen Winebarger in fourth and Dustin Cady from Albany was fifth driving the Drager Performance/Frank’s Fab and Auto/GRT Race Cars/Susan River Reality #7 GRT.

The Dog House Racing/Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Construction/Schram Brothers Excavating #28M Impressive of Jacksonville native Mark Wauge would win the B-Main and Rod McCombs from Albany would finish his AAMCO Transmissions of Corvallis and Newport #04 Pro in first place in the Last Chance Qualifier. Other awards presented would be some beautiful knives courtesy of Klecker Knives and Tools for the drivers that participated in evening’s redraw. Other contingencies were the Hard Luck Award (Mark Wauge) and two randomly drivers picked via a drawing (Matt Mitchell and Monte Bischoff) of which all would receive a free tire courtesy of X-Factor Race Cars.

Willamette Speedway will be back in action with the Karts on Friday August 1st and the Sportsman Spectacular on Saturday the 2nd. Classes in action on Saturday include the Albany & Eastern Railroad Sportsman, Crocker’s Cars Super Sports, Street Stocks, W.R.S. Late Model Lites, and 4-Cylinders.
