Willamette Speedway would host a wonderful night of action on Friday July 25th at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval. Twenty-four cars would sign in on the sign-in sheets representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and North Dakota.

Coburg’s Jesse Williamson would be fast out of the gate as he would grab the lead on the initial start in the Dustin Comer owned S.D.M.F. Race Cars/Mid Valley Metals/F.M. Jones & Sons Quality Trucks and Autos/K.C. Race Engines #ZERO S.D.MF. Williamson would blaze the trail at a rapid pace and looked very dominant in the early goings.

The entire field would race each other hard but clean producing three to four wide action all over the track. It looked like the race would go caution free but a yellow would come out on lap twenty-six due to debris. This would bunch field up just as the leaders were dealing with lapped traffic.

On the ensuing restart Williamson was just nine laps away from the victory but would be chased down by what seemed like a pack of wolves. At one point all of the top four cars were battling for the lead with Chowchilla, California’s Alex Stanford, who restarted fifth, going elbows up in the final circuits to overtake Williamson on lap thirty-three.

Stanford would hold on to the win to become the first repeat feature winner during Speedweek and earn his fourth career Mod Speedweek victory. It was also the second consecutive time that the Stanford Chopping/Precision Chassis Development/Golden Memorial Insurance/J&R Restaurant Equipment #98 Precision had visited victory at Willamette after scoring the win in the 2013 edition.

Collen Winebarger of Corbett would finish in second in his Discount Race Car Parts/Gordy Lee Photography/Frisbie Motorsports/Bessette Racing #SW Shaw by Jeff Taylor followed by Jesse Williamson in third. The balance of the top five would consist of the Susan River Reality/Precision Chassis Development/SRD Construction #6P Precision of Williston, North Dakota’s Travis Peery in fourth while fifth was Cory Sample from Winnemucca, Nevada in the Dakota Diesel/Susan River Reality #00 Razor.

Earning the victory in the consolation feature was the Schram Brothers Excavating/Century III Stables #16 Hughes of Jerry Schram from Vancouver, Washington. Racing returns for the final leg of the 2014 Wild West Modified Speedweek on Saturday July 26th with the main event feature winner earning a cool $2,000.00. Things will begin at the normal 6:00 PM start time and tickets are Adults $12.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $5.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE and a Family Pass will be offered for two Adults and up to four Youths for just $35.00.
