It was a great night of racing at Willamette Speedway on Saturday August 24th. The IMCA Modifieds were back in action for the prestigious “Modified Tribute To Clair” an event dedicated to the late longtime owner and operator of the historic 1/3-mile oval Clair Arnold. Also in action were the DIRTcar Super Late Models, Super Sports, and Sportsman.

2013 has been Albany native Craig Cassell’s year. The longtime crew chief for several top flight Late Model and Modified teams captured his third IMCA Modified victory by leading the entire distance of the Modified Tribute To Clair. When Cassell put his esterleemotel.com/CRD Race Bodies/Trevor Glaser Motorsports #25 Rocket by Ruhlman mount in the winner’s circle he became the fourth different winner in as many years of the “Tribute To Clair” event.

Trevor Glaser of Tangent would survive the DIRTcar Super Late Model main event to win pick up win number eleven in his 2013 season at Willamette. Glaser has simply dominated the competition in his Bayer Crop Science/Farmland Tractor Supply/Ground And Water #2 Trak-Star mount. With just a handful of races left time is running out for other drivers to beat him.

Gil Pickett of Salem would win the caution filled Super Sport feature. It would be Pickett’s third win of the season in the Pickett Custom Cabinets/Jeffrey Masonry #98 Swartz but fifth win overall for the car as driving duties are currently split between Pickett and Bob Jeffrey. Brian Smith of Albany would again grace victory lane in the Hackney Racing/Wirth Wireless #1 Pierce after dominating the field in the Sportsman ranks. Smith now has the most wins in the division as he would achieve his fourth triumph last Saturday night.

Willamette Speedway will be very busy this weekend as they host the annual Labor Day Classic two-day event on Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st. Both nights will feature the DIRTcar Super Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Super Sports, Sportsman, and Street Stocks. Also be sure and make it out on Tuesday September 3rd for the return of the World of Outlaw Sprints. The support class for this event will be the IMCA Modifieds.
