HANFORD’S “JIM EVETT MEMORIAL” AUGUST 3; RUTHERFORD TOPS KINGS 30-LAPPER

The “Jim Evett Memorial” at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. August 3 is next up for the USAC West Coast Sprint Cars and the series will feature a brand new point leader. Danny Faria Jr. of Tipton, Calif. has a four-point lead over Ryan Bernal after finishing second in Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Hanford.

Troy Rutherford of Ojai, Calif. led the final 14 laps of Saturday’ race in his AMSOIL/Trench Shoring TCR/Shark, beating Faria to the checkered flag. Fast qualifier Markus Niemela was third ahead of Bud Kaeding and Austin Liggett.

Rutherford led the first 14 laps and Faria led two before Rutherford took command.

Bernal, who passed on Saturday’s Hanford race while competing in the Midwest, has five victories and three seconds in 10 races this season, including a first and a second at Kings Speedway.

Fourth-ranking Richard Vander Weerd scored the other Hanford winners this year.
