Mods & Sprint Cars Headline Armed Forces Appreciation Night at CSP!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (July 8, 2013) – A full card of racing action including Modifieds and Sprint Cars is on tap for Saturday’s Armed Forces Appreciation Night atop the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval near Phoenix.

All active military personnel receive free admission to Saturday’s racing action that includes IMCA Modifieds, LoanMart Challenge Cup Non-Wing Sprint Cars, Micro Sprints, Viper Smart Start Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Renegades.

An Open Practice session on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will precede Saturday’s racing action that goes green at 7:00 p.m.

The IMCA Modified points chase is a close one with only nine points separating the top four drivers. With a win on May 11, Ricky Thornton, Jr., currently holds a 6-point lead over Anthony Madrid with Jay Foster and June 15 winner Jason Noll within single digits as well with Guy Norton rounding out the top five.

Ranked second in Modified points, Madrid has topped the most recent pair of Viper Smart Start Pure Stock feature events. Madrid is just fifth in Pure Stock points, 14 points off Bo Partain’s lead pace with Chris McCurdy, Jr., Ryan Eaden and Ty Weidner also in the top five.

A winner of five LoanMart Challenge Cup Sprint Car features including the most recent event on June 29, Josh Shipley has a slim 9-point lead over Johnny Shelton, Jr., with Jacob Hawkins, Jesse Turner and Larry Gibson rounding out the top five.

After Dustin Cormany topped four of the initial six Micro Sprint feature events, there has been four different winners in the last four events with Jacob Hawkins topping the most recent outing on June 29.

The Dwarf Cars have offered up two different winners in two events with Steve Kapaun the most recent winner on June 15 while John Romero has topped all three previous Renegade features.

With all active military personnel admitted free, general admission tickets for Saturday’s Armed Forces Appreciation Night are just $15, with a $2 discount for Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
