Zearfoss Breaks Through with Sprint Showdown Victory at BAPS Motor Speedway

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Brock Zearfoss has been beaten up traveling up and down the road with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series this season. It’s taken a toll on his confidence.
But things seem to be changing a bit. Jim Shuttlesworth has taken over the crew chief reins, and Zearfoss appears to be picking up speed … in a big way.
That was evident Saturday night in the Heavy Equipment Loaders and Parts Sprint Showdown. Zearfoss was fast from the time he rolled out of the trailer and turned it into his first victory since July 2, 2022, and a $10,000 victory.
“I owe it all to my guys,” Zearfoss said. “Jim Shuttlesworth has been helping us, here, getting our program dialed around, and Mike and Matt for just keeping the faith and working hard.
“This is what our team is capable of doing. It’s just so damn hard on the Outlaw tour to try different things and get things going in the right direction. You’ve got to be on every night, and it’s no different here. You have Logan, Danny, Brent, all of those guys up front. We had to be good, and Jim, Mike, and Matt gave me that.”
Zearfoss beat Logan Schuchart off the start and sailed into Turns 1 and 2 to take the lead. Before he could build on his lead, the first caution of the 30-Lap affair came out on the second circuit.
Fourth-place starter Chase Dietz took advantage of the restart and surged past Schuchart through the third and fourth corner to take second. He got a clear shot at Zearfoss after Austin Bishop spun for the second time on Lap 6.
Another caution occurred one lap later when Daison Pursley spun in Turn 1. Zearfoss picked up the front end on the restart and almost gave the lead up, but he was able to maintain and build a 1.482-second advantage by the 10th circuit.
Dietz was able to close the gap to .427 seconds at the halfway point, but that was as close as he would get. Zearfoss negotiated thick traffic over the final 10 circuits and claimed the win by 1.135 seconds at the stripe.
“I was just trying to get rid of them as quickly as I could, whether it was the right move to go across or not,” Zearfoss said of the lapped cars. “I was just trying to go where they weren’t on entry and pass them as quickly as I could without killing momentum.
“Obviously, it worked out tonight. I’m just thankful we could get a win before the season is over, building confidence in our team. Now, I can’t wait to get to Australia.”
Dietz finished second, with Schuchart, Danny Dietrich, and Brent Marks completing the top five. Dietrich locked up the RV-4-Wheel Drive point championship.
In the 358 Modified main event, Billy Pauch Jr. led the final 10 circuits to claim the main event. He took the checker by 1.379 seconds over Dan Creeden.
Matt Peck beat Rick Laubach off the start and led the first four circuits. Third-place starter Ryan Godown made the pass for the lead on Lap 5 and led through Lap 20 when he suffered a tire rub that put him out of the event.
Pauch, who started sixth on the grid, took over and led the rest of the way, beating Creeden and Danny Bouc to the checker. Laubach and Logan Watt completed the top five.
In Enduro action, Don Murphy captured the Big Car event, with Roger Kummerer taking top honors in the Small Car event. Both races were 50 laps.
