Mario Gresham grabs first-career World Short Track Championship checkered flag at The Dirt Track

Needmore’s Early Bird 50 Tentatively Up Next

ROME, Ga. (11/05/24) – Mario Gresham rallied after early carburetor issues to claim Thursday’s World Short Track Championship preliminary feature at The Dirt Track at Charlotte aboard his Acker’s Wrecker Service / Gresham Racing Parts No. 21 Longhorn Chassis Late Model.

Gresham shot underneath pole-starting Dalton Dowdy on the opening lap and never relinquished the lead, dominating every circuit to claim his ninth victory of the season and a $600 payday.

“I knew we had to go early,” Gresham said. “I think we qualified dead last for tomorrow, the carburetor wouldn’t run and had some problems. I was hoping to race to make sure everything was good on it. But once we made it through the first lap, I knew we were ok. The car was really good tonight.”

The tripleheader event brought Gresham and 59 Pro Late Models to the pristine North Carolina facility over the weekend for the ninth annual World Short Track Championship.

Resolving his early carburetor issues before the start of Thursday's feature, Gresham went fourth-to-first in the 15-lap preliminary to record his ninth win of the season. He outran Brock Pinkerous and Jody Knowles to the checkered flag to bag the $600 payday.

After a slow start in Friday’s program, Mario capped off the weekend with a run forward in Saturday night’s World Short Track Championship finale. He took a provisional into the $4,000-to-win main event and climbed eight spots to finish 17th.

Gresham is slated to make his return to the track for the Early Bird 50 at Needmore Speedway on November 22-23, though his schedule remains subject to weather conditions.

The Crate Racin’ USA doubleheader weekend opens with preliminaries on Friday followed by Saturday’s $10,000-to-win finale.
