Thompson competes in Iron Cup at Park Jefferson
Cody Thompson returned to his newly redesigned home track of Park Jefferson Speedway over the weekend and took on an almost 30-car IMCA Modified field in the Iron Cup program.
Preliminary competition at the oval near Jefferson, South Dakota, kicked off on Friday. In the opener, Thompson scored a pair of impressive heat-race wins in his Excel Floor Covering No. 25c Modified. Those results started him second in the following night’s 25-lap, $1,500-to-win feature at the quarter-mile speed plant.
Thompson was battling for the lead with eventual winner Brandon Beckendorf in the main event when he stripped a drive flange, ending his night early. He ultimately recorded a 23rd-place finish.
