Brian Shirley grabs $10,000 payday with MARS Late Models at Brownstown Bullring

Prepping for Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway

CHILTON, Wis. (09/16/24) – Brian Shirley returned to Victory Lane over the weekend with a $10,000 triumph in Friday’s Brownstown 100 at Brownstown Bullring aboard his Bob Cullen Racing / Thomason Express No. 3s J&J Ventures & Gaming/ Hoker Trucking / Longhorn Race Car / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Chatham, Ill., racer drove around pole-starting Shannon Babb on lap 13 of the feature and repelled Babb’s late rally to claim his sixth win of the season and his 23rd career MARS Late Model Championship Series victory.

"I was super worried. I don't know what happened after that restart," Shirley said. "My car started laying over real bad and I definitely didn't think he was gonna make it to the end of the race. So, by the good Lord, he let us finish the race."

With Mother Nature wiping out the World of Outlaw (WoO) Case Late Model Series weekend in Georgia and Alabama, Brian Shirley stayed close to home with a trip to Brownstown (Ill.) Bullring on Friday night for the MARS Late Model Championship Series-sanctioned Brownstown 100.

Drawing 31 Super Late Models, Brian advanced into the main event with a flag-to-flag victory in his eight-lap heat race. Joining Shannon Babb on the front row for the feature, Shirley overtook Babb on lap 13 and fended off Babb’s late challenges in the closing circuits of the 50-lapper to secure the victory.

Brian pocketed a $10,000 payday in his 23rd career triumph with the series.

Saturday's $10,000-to-win event at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway was rained out.

The 2006 Knoxville Nationals champ is set to return to Knoxville (IA) Raceway this weekend for the 20th annual Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) Knoxville Nationals.

A pair of preliminaries on Thursday and Friday set the stage for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Knoxville Nationals finale.
