Tifft races in big late-August shows across trio of states

Three tracks in three states made up Matt Tifft’s racing schedule on the third full week of August. His tour started in New York on Tuesday and ended in his home state of Ohio on Saturday night.

Tifft opened the week on Tuesday evening, racing his GUNK No. 57 Super Late Model in a 34-car field at The New Stateline Speedway in Busti, New York. He was unable to transfer into the Battle at the Border 40 through his heat race on the 1/3-mile oval, but used a fourth-place result in his B-Main to start 23rd in the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win feature. He climbed seven spots in the race and brought home a 16th-place finish.

On Wednesday, Tifft and his team moved to the Keystone State to compete in a $20,000-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America event at Lernerville Speedway. He was one of 49 Super Late Model drivers at the 4/10-mile track in Sarver, Pennsylvania. Tifft finished fifth in his heat and sixth in his B-Feature, bringing his evening to a close before the 50-lap finale.

After a day off on Thursday, over the weekend Tifft joined the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series at Chillicothe, Ohio’s Atomic Speedway for the Fireball 50.

Thirty-one World of Outlaws Late Models were at Atomic on Friday, necessitating four heat races. Tifft couldn’t find the pace to transfer in his heat, but charged from 13th to seventh in the Last Chance Showdown. However, he came up one spot shy of moving into the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Main at the 3/8-mile speed plant.

On Saturday, Tifft was among 32 World of Outlaws Late Model drivers on the Atomic property seeking the $15,000 winner’s share. He finished seventh in his heat and 10th in the Last Chance Showdown, ending his evening before the 50-lap main event.
