Ahumada Jr. visits Vado victory lane

Mod War 100 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway Up Next

EL PASO, Texas (8/28/24) – After spending over a month away from the cockpit, Carlos Ahumada Jr. returned with a vengeance on Saturday as he drove to the USRA Modified victory at his home track of Vado (New Mexico) Speedway Park aboard his Hacienda Mechanical / Penske Racing Shocks No. 65x Hughes Racing Chassis Modified.

Ahumada navigated from the sixth-starting position to the front in the 25-lap feature to claim his first win of the 2024 season.

“Man, what a win,” Ahumada said. “I am very excited to see what Heather and I can accomplish together to finish off the year. Big thanks to all the sponsors that help out and my awesome family.”

The El Paso, Texas, native was among 23 Modified competitors at the 3/8-mile oval on Saturday evening, necessitating three heat races. He steered his Hacienda Motorsports No. 65x from fourth to second in his heat and started sixth on the grid in the 25-lap main event. He grabbed the lead on lap 10 of the feature and showed the way for the remainder of the race, taking the checkered flag 2.810 seconds in front of Royal Jones.

The triumph was Ahumada's first of the 2024 season.

Jake Gallardo rounded out the podium, with Jake Boles and Jay Rosales finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
