Honeycutt leads BLR with runner-up finish at Ace

On Friday, the Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) organization fielded a two-car effort in the Pro Late Model portion of the zMAX CARS Tour AcceleratedGFX.com 285 at Ace Speedway. The team came away from the 4/10-mile oval in Altamahaw, North Carolina, with two top-10 results, and came ever so close to grabbing its first series win.

To open the evening, newly announced team driver Kaden Honeycutt put BLR’s No. 47 Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Chevrolet SS on the pole in the 14-car field. The multiple-time CARS Tour winner and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standout earned the top spot with a 15.202-second lap. Meanwhile, his teammate Brandon Lopez qualified 12th in his No. 6 Duncan Machinery | Trent Pippin Trucking Chevrolet SS.

When the green flag flew for the 100-lap main event, Honeycutt dropped to fourth to let his tires reach their optimum state. He began to move forward when the race was well underway, but lost brakes near the halfway point. Still, he took the lead from Tristan McKee off of turn four with fewer than 24 circuits remaining. He led until lap 92, when Caden Kvapil got by as Honeycutt was forced to limp home. He finished in the runner-up spot, 2.133 seconds behind Kvapil. Jake Bollman, Spencer Davis and Jimmy Renfrew Jr. completed the top five.

Meanwhile, Lopez marched steadily forward in the 100-lapper and scored an eighth-place finish. It was his second CARS Tour top-10 result of 2024.

Honeycutt is currently tied with Spencer Davis atop the Pro Late Model standings, while Lopez occupies the 10th spot.
