Mike Benedum scores pair of Top-5 finishes in strong weekend with Southern Nationals
Mike Benedum joined the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals as the miniseries wrapped up their season over the weekend. Unloading his No. 25 Super Late Model, Benedum checked into North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Ga.) on Friday evening for the $10,053-to-win main event.
Laying down the 10th-quickest lap in qualifying , Benedum finished fourth in his heat which position him to start 10th in the 53-lap main event. Mike slowly moved passed five competitors to record a Top-5 finish in fifth.
Keeping up the momentum on Saturday evening at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway, Mike topped qualifying with the fastest lap before finishing runner-up in his heat race. Starting fourth in the $20,053-to-win feature, Benedum moved into the top spot on lap 12 and led until lap 52 when Dale McDowell was able to chase him down. Mike settled for runner-up behind McDowell while Dakotah Knuckles competed the Top-3.
