Clayton Stuckey Secures First Sooner Victory at Thunderbird Speedway

Shreveport, La. (07/31/24) – Clayton Stuckey added his second win of the season over the weekend with a impressive charge to the front in Friday’s Bud Morgan Memorial at Thunderbird Speedway aboard his Lucas Oil / Advanced Powder Coating / FiberTec Laser Cutting No. 15 Black Diamond Racecars Late Model.

The 20-year-old Shreveport, La., native drove from the 11th-starting position to the front by lap 15 and paced the remainder of the APEX Healthcare Partners Sooner Late Model Series-sanctioned feature to capture the $2,566 winner’s payday.

“I was driving as hard as I could,” Stuckey said. “There were so many restarts and I took advantage of them the best I could and tried not to wreck. I saw Kip Hughes drive to the bottom and Jon Kirby went with him and that left the door open to go around both of them so I took my opportunity and drove it wide open.”

With the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) doubleheader planned in the state of Arkansas rained out, Clayton and Jarrett Stuckey invaded Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Okla.) on Friday afternoon to compete with the Apex Healthcare Partners Sooner Series.

Against a field of 18 Late Models for the Bud Morgan Memorial, both drivers went forward in their heat race and feature but Clayton’s impressive performance in the 20-lap feature resulted in a thrilling victory. While Jarrett climbed two positions in the A-Main to finish third, Clayton drove from the sixth row to the front to claim his second win of the 2024 season. Starting in 11th, Clayton climbed to fifth by the 11th circuit and blasted ahead of early pacesetter Jon Kirby on lap 15 to take command of the lead. He paced the remainder of the 20-lapper to claim the $2,566 winner’s payday.

On Saturday at Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Okla.), both Stuckey's ended the night with Top-5 runs. Clayton advanced three positions in the 25-lap finale to finish second while Jarrett raced to a fourth-place finish.
