Sanders earns pair of top-10 finishes in Mod Wars
The Summit USMTS slate continued from Thursday through Saturday at Ogilvie (Minnesota) Raceway, where Rodney Sanders competed in the fourth annual Mod Wars.
The event pitting USMTS Modifieds against WISSOTA Modifieds opened Thursday evening with 34 cars in the pits at the 3/8-mile clay oval. Sanders drove his MB Customs Race Cars No. 20 machine to second in his heat race, starting him third in the $3,000-to-win A-Main. He finished in the same spot in the 30-lapper, taking the checkered flag behind Dan Ebert and Jim Chisholm. Jake O’Neil and Kyle Brown rounded out the top five.
Friday brought 39 Modifieds to Ogilvie for a show with a $5,000 first-place prize. After finishing fifth in his heat, Sanders used a third-place result in his B-Main to transfer into the night’s feature. He started 17th in the 40-lap race and came home 12th.
Sanders was again part of a 39-car field on Saturday for the Mod Wars finale. He grabbed first place in his heat and rolled off seventh in the 50-lap main event paying $11,000 to the victor. Sanders ultimately notched an eighth-place result to cap off a successful weekend despite battling some issues, including a bent J-bar.
The five-time USMTS champion is currently third in the point standings.
