Dillon McCowan third in Hell Tour week five opener at Butler Motor Speedway
Chasing down Tyler Erb for the Hell Tour title, Dillon McCowan rolled into Butler Speedway (Quincy, Mich.) on Thursday afternoon to kick off the fifth week of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals.
With 29 entries signed in for week's opener, Dillon laid down the quickest lap in his qualifying group before picking up the heat race win. Rolling off from the second-row in the $5,000-to-win event, McCowan fell back to 10th early in the 30-lap feature but rallied to land on the podium in third.
As the field exploded to 53 entries at Crystal (Mich.) Motor Speedway on Friday, McCowan earned his A-Main spot in a heat race and passed four competitors on his way to another Top-5 finish in fourth.
With another $10,000 payday up for grabs at Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon, Ohio) on Saturday, Dillon started seventh but did not find much speed and finished outside the Top-10 in 13th.
On Sunday, McCowan wrapped up the Hell Tour at Wayne County Speedway (Orrville, Ohio) with a ninth-place finish in the $5,000-to-win finale.
McCowan wound up fourth in the week five point standings and came up just short of the overall championship as he finished runner-up to Tyler Erb.
