Groomer runner-up at Lincoln Park; mechanical issue spoils run in Merrill Downey Memorial
Derek Groomer checked into Lincoln Park Speedway (Putnamville, Ind.) on Friday afternoon for the first night of his doubleheader weekend.
Earning quick time honors and winning his heat race, Groomer started the $1,000-to-win feature from fourth and made up two positions to finish runner-up to Derek Losh.
For the big $5,444-to-win Merrill Downey Memorial at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway, Groomer joined a stacked 54-car field on Saturday.
Stopping the clock eighth-fastest in his qualifying group, Derek won his heat race and placed sixth in the evening's dash. Rolling off sixth in the 44-lap feature, Groomer raced his way into the Top-3 before a mechanical failure forced him to pull in. He scored 18th in the final rundown.
