Top-10 finish for Mullens in USMTS Masters prelim action

Tanner Mullens continued on with the Summit USMTS schedule on Thursday and Friday as he traveled to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, for the 25th annual USMTS Masters.

When the event got underway on Thursday, Mullens’ Mel Hambelton Ford No. 02 Modified was one of 44 USMTS entries at the 3/8-mile clay oval. Mullens opened the evening with a second-place finish in his heat race and began the 35-lap, $3,000-to-win A-Main from the fourth row. He dropped one position in the race and came home 10th.

The following night, Mullens was among 48 USMTS competitors at the track seeking a $5,000 first-place check. After failing to transfer through his heat, Mullens nabbed fourth in his B-Main to move into the night’s 40-lap main event. He climbed five spots from 18th on the grid to record a 13th-place result in the feature.

Saturday’s slated $12,000-to-win finale fell victim to Mother Nature, as did Sunday’s scheduled stop at Sauk Rapids, Minnesota’s Granite City Motor Park for a $5,000-to-win program.

After the Cedar Lake events, Mullens sits seventh in the USMTS standings.
