Tanner Mullens

Mullens drives to trio of top-10 results at Humboldt

With his originally scheduled trip to Greenwood, Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway canceled by rain, Tanner Mullens opted to race in his home state of Kansas on the second weekend in April. He was one of several Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) drivers who made the audible call from Boothill to Humboldt Speedway to compete in United States Racing Association (USRA) action with the Battle at the Bullring from Thursday through Saturday.

When racing got underway at the Humboldt, Kansas, quarter-mile on Thursday evening, Mullens’ Mel Hambelton Ford No. 02 ride was among 21 USRA Modifieds in the pit area. Mullens finished third in his heat race and started on the third row in the 20-lap A-Main. He picked up one spot to come home fourth, finishing behind Dan Ebert, Gabe Hodges, and D.J. Shannon. Carlos Ahumada Jr. rounded out the top five.

The next two nights made up the inaugural event for the new USRA Heartland Modified Tour and brought 37 Modifieds to the track on Friday, while 38 were in the pit area on Saturday.

On Friday evening, Mullens took fifth in his heat, putting him in the 15th starting spot for the 30-lap, $2,000-to-win A-Main. He raced to a seventh-place result.

With another $2,000 on the line on Saturday, Mullens notched third in his heat and started seventh in the 30-lap feature. He steered to a third-place finish, rounding out the podium behind Darron Fuqua and Tyler Wolff. Gabe Hodges and Gunner Martin finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
