Tanner Mullens continues season with USMTS at Humboldt Speedway

After a layoff of more than a month, Wichita, Kansas, driver Tanner Mullens climbed back aboard his Fuqua Trucking No. 02 Modified over the weekend to compete in his home state. Humboldt Speedway was the site of the action for the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) King of America XIII, which had been postponed by inclement weather in early March.

On Thursday, Mullens was one of 53 USMTS competitors at the quarter-mile oval in Humboldt, Kansas. He finished fourth in his heat race and grabbed the sixth and final transfer spot in his B-Feature, gridding him 23rd to start the $3,000-to-win A-Main. He picked up 10 spots in the 33-lap race to come home 13th.

Fifty-three USMTS racers were on hand again the next night, this time eyeing a $5,000 winner’s share. After a sixth-place result in his heat and an eight-place finish in his consolation race, Mullens used a provisional to transfer into the A-Main. He started 25th and ended the 40-lap feature in the 20th spot.

On Saturday, 51 USMTS Modifieds were in the pit area for the event finale with $12,000 going to the victor. Mullens took the checkered flag in his heat and started on the pole in the 60-lap main event. However, the race was canceled due to rain after just two laps. A makeup date will be announced soon.
