Knoxville Raceway Opening Night Postponed to April 27

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (April 19, 2013) – Knoxville Raceway’s opening night set for Saturday, April 20 has been postponed due to more than six inches of rain earlier this week and the continued cool temperatures. The Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series opening night will now be held on Saturday, April 27.

“I want to race as bad as anybody but we don’t want to make our first night of action at the Raceway a big question mark for our drivers,” stated John McCoy, Knoxville race director. “The 410 class will be on a new tire, we have six rookies, absolutely no laps on the track for anybody and a forecast high temperature of 43 for 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night. All these issues combined make opening night a large hurdle for us and all of our competitors.”

The Pella Motors Race For Your School Night coupons may be used at the April 27 season opener and kids will get in free again as well.

For more information go to www.knoxvilleraceway.com or call (641) 842-5431.

The Season Opener will feature more than 80 drivers competing for the $35,000 purse and a points fund that exceeds $250,000 annually. Three classes of sprint cars will race on Saturday: 410, 360 and 305. The top class 410’s will average more than 120 miles per hour on the ½ mile dirt track. The Season Opener is a night to get immersed in a sensory overload of excitement. From the loud roar of the engines and sights of incredible slide jobs through the turns to the drivers skill and finesse as cars accelerate down the track.

The schedule of events at the Season Opener include a car show starting at Noon, plus more activities kick-off at 3:00 p.m. with kids inflatable rides, a balloon maker and live music. All kids and teens under 19 get into the races for free. Kids ages 5-12 are encouraged to sign up for the free Knoxville Raceway Junior Fan Club.
