Berry Jr. scores victory in fill-in role at Marshalltown
When car owner Tim Current found out his driver Jeff "Bone" Larson was under the weather and wouldn’t be able to compete in Friday’s IMCA Frostbuster event at Marshalltown Speedway, he turned to his friend Tom Berry Jr.
Berry rewarded the team by driving its No. 12T Modified to Victory Lane.
With 35 IMCA Modified competitors on hand at the quarter-mile clay oval in Marshalltown, Iowa, Berry won one of four heat races, putting him second on the grid to start the 30-lap, $1,000-to-win feature.
He claimed the lead on the first circuit and led all 30 laps, crossing under the checkered flag 1.490 seconds ahead of Ethan Braaksma. Jake McBirnie, Dylan Thornton and Tripp Gaylord completed the top five.
Berry's victory was his third of the season and the 73rd IMCA Modified triumph of his career.
