Sanders earns dual top-10 finishes at USMTS Texas Winter Nationals

Rodney Sanders opened his defense of the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) National Championship over the weekend as the series’ 2024 schedule got underway at Hunt County Raceway in Greenville, Texas.

On Friday, the five-time champion Sanders was among 49 Modified entrants on hand at the quarter-mile oval for the ninth annual USMTS Texas Winter Nationals. He wheeled his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 machine to third in his heat race, then went on to win his B-Main to start 14th in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. He advanced eight positions in the race to score a sixth-place finish.

The next night, an even 50 USMTS Modified drivers looked to grab another $5,000 top prize. Sanders once again finished third in his heat and won his B-Main. He took the green flag for 50-lap main event from 14th on the grid and came home ninth.

After the first weekend of action, Sanders holds the sixth spot in USMTS points.
