Schedule Now Set for Golden Jubilee Season at Can-Am

On June 14th 1974 the doors opened for the very first time at the Can-Am Speedway (then called Winner’s Circle Speedway) in Lafargeville New York. Jim Clark won the first ever Modified feature event and Gordie Dobbins won the Stocker feature and helped lay the foundation for the speedway, which is still going strong heading into its 50th year.

In 2024, the season will kick off much earlier as the Golden Jubilee season will see many returning events along with new events on the card.

The season starts with the Thunder in the 1000 Islands weekend April 12th and 13th. The weekend kicks off Friday night with the DIRTCar 358 Modified Series opener plus the DIRTCar Sportsman and 602 Crate Sprint Cars plus a practice session for the Super DIRTCar Series. Sunday the Super DIRTCar Series takes center stage plus the DIRTCar Sportsman Series, Pro Stocks and an open Thundercar show.

The season will officially kick off April 26th with the Nasty Track of the North Season Opener with a full card of racing for DIRTCar 358 Modified, DIRTCar Sportsman, 602 Crate Sprints, Thundercars and Limited Sportsman.

May 24th, making its return to the speedway for the first time since 1998, is the popular Summer Starter, which back then was a big block/small block race, but is now strictly a 358 Modified event but carries a lot of prestige.

The Pabst Shootout returns for a 29th time to Can-Am and Billy Dunn will try to defend his win from a year ago, along with the first of three events for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) on Wednesday July 3rd. The ESS drivers will also be back for the Summer Sizzler on August 2nd.

Two nights are scheduled for those who love the Vintage Modifieds. The Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour comes to town May. 24th, while the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club hits the track during Vintage Christmas in July on the 26th.

Track champions will be crowned for the 50th Jubilee Season on August 30th but the action won’t stop there.

September 6th the first of two nights for the Showdown in September will take place. The 67 lap Super DIRTCar Series event will pay a cool $7567 to win, in honor of the late Richard Hutchinson, plus the DIRTCar Sportsman Series and a Crate Late Model Special.

September 7th the Showdown in September weekend concludes with the third appearance for the Empire Super Sprints plus the annual John Burr Memorial for the DIRTCar Sportsman Series and the annual Ron White Memorial for Thundercars.

Other highlights for the Golden Jubilee season include Pit Crew Showdown night featuring a mechanics race on June 7th, the Father’s Day special lands on June 14th, the same night as the first ever race was held at Can-Am in 1974.

Can-Am will also pay our tributes to our Armed Forces on June 21st and our First Responders on August 9th. Fans are always valued at Can-Am and Fan Appreciation night is set for May 31st and a Family Autograph night will be held August 16th.
