Mullens takes multiple top-5 finishes in Kansas Indoor Kart Nationals

Tanner Mullens jumped out of his Modified and into the dirt karting ranks on Friday and Saturday when he participated in the inaugural Kansas Indoor Kart Nationals at Mattox Arena (Derby, Kansas).

Mullens’ No. X ride was one of 30 in the Adult Flat Predator 212 class when the event kicked off on Friday. He drove to third- and second-place finishes in his heat races, putting him in a B-Main, where he grabbed the third and final transfer spot to start 14th in the 20-lap feature. Mullens drove toward the front throughout the race and took a fourth-place result in the $500-to-win contest, finishing behind Jacob Bofink, Dylan Doty and Cordel Hendrickson. Leroy Wagner completed the top five.

The following day, Mullens competed in a pair of $500-to-win programs, taking part in both the Adult Flat Predator 212 and Open Flat classes.

With 21 entries on hand for Adult Flat Predator 212 on Saturday, Mullens turned in a runner-up finish in his first heat race and grabbed the checkered flag in his second. He started the 20-lap A-Main from the third spot and came home in the same position, rounding out the podium behind Bofink and Doty. David Goertz and Daniel Simon finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mullens was also one of 14 competitors in the Open Flat class. Piloting the No. 42 car, he finished second in his first heat and won the second, gridding him third in the 20-lap main event. He recorded a fifth-place result, crossing the start-finish line behind Darrick Swiggart, Ryan Swiggart, Derek Moore and Dylan Doty.
