Ryan Timms victorious at Merced; Repeats in Turkey Night at Ventura
Ryan Timms returned on his western swing on Tuesday with a visit to Merced Speedway (Merced, Cali.) for the two-day USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship event.
With a second-place finish in his heat race pinning him on the eighth row for the opener, Timms advanced seven positions in the 30-lap opener to register a ninth-place finish.
With 31 USAC Midget entries signed in on Wednesday, Ryan backed up the 10th-fastest qualifying effort with a 10-lap heat race triumph. Climbing into the Top-5 in the feature, Timms jumped up three spots to finish fourth, chasing Logan Seavey, Justin Grant, and Buddy Kofoid to the checkers with Carson Macedo coming in fifth.
Ryan finished third in the final USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship point standings.
During the same night in the 360 Sprinter ranks, Timms placed third in his heat race before going flag-to-flag in the 30-lap feature to claim his 11th win of the season.
Pulling double duty again on Friday and Saturday at Ventura Raceway (Ventura, Cali.) for the 82nd running of the ARP Turkey Night Grand Prix, Ryan stole the lead from early pacesetter Logan Seavey on lap 26 of the Midget feature on Saturday only to relinquish the top spot one circuit later. Previous contact earlier in the 86-lapper led to an early exit on lap 51.
Following a dash victory in Friday’s USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series event, Timms wired the field in Saturday’s finale to secure his second straight victory in the event and 12th overall on the season. He finished 2.446 seconds ahead of Brody Fuson with Ricky Lewis, Max Adams, and Blake Bower completing the Top-5 finishers
