Jake tops Duel in the Desert opener in Las Vegas

Jake made the trek to the Dirt Track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada this past weekend for the 23rd annual Duel in the Desert and if not for some bad luck with cut tires, he may have swept the weekend.

Thursday night, after an 8th to 3rd run in his heat race, he started 6th in the night's feature race and worked his way to the front and raced to the opening night win for his efforts.

Friday, he started 8th in his heat race and raced forward to finish 2nd, putting himself on the pole for the night's main event. He took the lead on the opening lap, but contact from another competitor cut his left rear tire, forcing him into the hot pit and to restart at the tail. From 21st, he blasted by cars left and right, working into the top five and eventually into second late in the race, where he crossed the finish line with an impressive 21st to 2nd run.

Saturday, he redrew the 5th starting spot for the night's 35-lap, $7,777 to win feature and after racing inside the top five all race long, he worked his way to second and then was able to steal the lead on a late race restart, only to have his left rear tire come apart as he took the white flag while leading. He pitted and restarted at the tail and was able to salvage an 11th place finish on the night.
