Jon Mitchell grabs 6th-place result in Modified at Ark-La-Tex Speedway
The third annual Billy Melton Memorial at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) brought a stout field of USRA Modified competitors to the quarter-mile clay oval for a chance at a $3,087 first-place payout. Among them was Jon Mitchell with his W&W Timber No. 5 car.
On Friday, Mitchell was one of 29 drivers competing in two sets of heat races. The races awarded passing points to lock eight competitors into the following night's finale. Mitchell earned a feature starting spot by winning his first heat from the pole and driving from 10th to fifth in his second.
The next night, with 31 Modifieds on the property at the “Land of 3 Wide,” Mitchell scored a runner-up result in the eight-car dash race to start second in the 30-lap A-Main. He ultimately finished in the sixth position.
