Mullens grabs runner-up result in Fall Jamboree lid lifter at Deer Creek
Tanner Mullens took to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) on Thursday evening and came up just one spot shy of victory on the first night of the 25th annual United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Fall Jamboree.
Eighty-one USMTS competitors sought the $3,000 first-place payout at the 3/8-mile oval, where Mullens grabbed a second-place result in one of the night’s eight heat races. He started the 35-lap feature from the sixth spot and moved into second place on Lap 12.
Mullens claimed the runner-up position in the final rundown after a furious battle within the top five, crossing the start-finish line 3.672 seconds behind winner Rodney Sanders. Brandon Davis took the third spot, with Jason Hughes and Dereck Ramirez finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
After Thursday’s event, Mullens is sixth in the USMTS standings.
The Fall Jamboree’s slated Friday and Saturday programs were rained out, with a makeup date set for spring 2024.
