Tribute to Ken "Hurricane" Heckler This Thursday Night
LANCASTER, N.Y. (August 14, 2023) – This coming Thursday night, August 17, Lancaster Motorplex will return to action as the Budget RV Outlet of Buffalo Street Stocks will be headlining the program with the running of the Ken “Hurricane” Heckler 51. The race is in tribute to Ken “Hurricane” Heckler, a longtime racer and track official.
Thursday night’s racing program will be one of the final two points races of the season, with Season Championship Night taking place on September 9. Tony Carbone leads Shawn Nye by 60 points, John Barber by 63, George Skora III by 69, and Tom MacLeod by 72 in the Monroe Extinguisher Sportsman. In the Budget RV Outlet of Buffalo Street Stocks, reigning track champion Mark Hoch leads Jacob Gustafson by 58 points. The Welshans brothers of Tim and Nik are 102 and 117 points behind Hoch. The Rusty Diamond Cores 4 Cylinder points chase sees five drivers all within 65 points, with Chris Deyoe Jr leading Andy Danielwicz by 36 markers. John Byrd (-44), Hunter McKay (-52), and Josh Schosek (-65) are also still in the hunt for the track championship.
The Monroe Extinguisher Sportsman, Rusty Diamond Cores 4 Cylinders, and the Mighty TQ Midgets will all be in competition on Thursday night. Also, on tap will be the King Wolf Productions Big Wheels! Kids aged 3-12 can sign up at the picnic tables in the main concourse when gates open and race during intermission and can participate in the Kids Korner Craft hosted by the 50/50 ticket sellers. Pit gates will open at 4 pm, grandstands open at 5:30 pm, and racing will begin at 7 pm sharp.
