Tanner Mullens tallies a pair of top-5's in Mod Wars at Ogilvie

Tanner Mullens was back in action on Thursday afternoon at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minn.) aboard his Mel Hambelton Ford No. 02 Modified for the third annual Mod Wars.

Drawing a stellar field of 45 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries, Mullens secured his spot into Thursday’s prelim with a fifth-to-third run before wet weather had a say and postponed the feature to Friday.

Starting Thursday’s rescheduled feature in seventh via the redraw, Tanner charged forward four spots to register a third-place finish.

For another round of prelims later Friday night, Mullens followed up the fourth-fastest time in his qualifying group with a runner-up run in his heat. Wheeling his way into the top-five in the feature, Tanner passed seven cars to place fifth. He chased Jim Chisholm, Jake Timm, Shane Sabraski, and Dave Cain to the checkers.

On Saturday, Tanner raced his way into the $11,000-to-win Mod Wars finale with a consolation victory. Rolling off 16th, Mullens ran as seventh before fading to finish 15th in the 50-lapper.

The team stopped at Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) on Sunday to get some test laps in for the upcoming USMTS stint but his night came to an abrupt halt after another car landed on his roof in hot laps.
