Overton rolls to runner-up finish in Gopher 50 prelim at Deer Creek
Wells Motorsports and Brandon Overton returned on the road on Thursday afternoon as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) drew 38 competitors to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minn.) for the 44th annual NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50.
With two rounds of prelims kicking off the three-day event, Overton came in second in his heat before fading in the second half of the 25-lap preliminary feature to finish 15th.
For another $5,000-to-win preliminary on Friday, Brandon outran fellow front-row starter Jonathan Davenport in his heat to pick up the eight-lap victory. After setting the pace for the opening 13 circuits of the main event, Overton surrendered the top spot to Chris Madden and went onto place second in the 25-lapper. He trailed Madden to the checkers with Bobby Pierce rounding out the podium.
Locked into the seventh-starting position for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50 via preliminary results, Overton dropped five positions in the 75-lap affair to place 12th.
Brandon is currently third in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
