Steve King Memorial At Dodge City Raceway Park Next For American Sprint Car Series

(July 5, 2023) Gearing up for a two-night run into Dodge, the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com will return to Dodge City Raceway Park for the first time since 2012 on Friday, July 7 ($3,000 to win, $400 to start), and Saturday, July 8 ($5,088 to win, $500 to start) for the Steve King Memorial.
First contested in 2009, the event started at the former Great American Dirt Track, which was located in Steve King's hometown of Jetmore, Kan., The event was won by Nebraska's Jack Dover. The defending champion of the Steve King Memorial, held in October, 2022 at Dodge City Raceway Park, is Missouri's Garet Williamson.
A town rich in history, auto racing in Dodge City, Kan., can be traced back to 1934 with McCarty Speedway. A half-mile oval that saw action at the Ford County Fairgrounds, the three-eighths-mile track we know today at Dodge City Raceway Park sits just south of the city and broke ground in 2000. Originally constructed as a pavement track, the facility transitioned to dirt a few years after it was constructed.
Going into the two-night affair, Jason Martin, who grew up just south of Dodge City in Liberal, Kan. leads tour standings by 46 over Matt Covington. Third finds Jordon Mallett, then Howard Moore, and Brandon Anderson, making up the top five.
This weekend's Steve King Memorial will make use of the three-eighths-mile, as well as the eighth-mile-oval in the infield as the American Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.com and Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association take on the big track, while the Dirt2Media National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division take on the small track with A-Class, Non-Wing, and Restricted Micros.
Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8 open at 5:00 P.M. with racing at 7:30 P.M. (CDT). Tickets are $20, and free for kids 12 and under. Pits are $35.
