Hoffman fifth in WoO visit at Mason City Motor Speedway
Returning with the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series for a four-race stretch across three states, Nick Hoffman unloaded his Tye Twarog Racing No. 9 Late Model at Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) on Tuesday afternoon for the Mason City Showdown.
With 24 Late Models entered, Hoffman recorded a blazing 13.343-second lap in time trials to claim the fast time honors as well as setting a new track record. With a heat race victory sending him into the redraw, Nick took the green in fifth and finished fifth in the 40-lapper. He chased Bobby Pierce, Shane Clanton, Brandon Sheppard, and Mike Marlar to the checkers.
After Mother Nature shifted Wednesday’s stop at Red River Valley Speedway (West Fargo, N.D.) to Thursday, Nick squeezed into the main event with a fourth-place finish but was involved in a tangle on the opening lap of the feature that brought a disappointing end to his night.
For the $12,000-to-win River Cities Showdown on Saturday at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, N.D.), Hoffman’s fourth-place finish in his heat race pinned him on the eighth row for the A-Main. Moving forward two spots in the 40-lap affair, Nick recorded a 13th-place finish.
Action shifted to I-94 EMR Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minn.) on Saturday where Nick qualified for the weekend finale with a third-place finish in his heat. Starting in seventh, Hoffman lost one spot in the 50-lap feature to finish eighth.
Nick is currently fourth in the latest World of Outlaws point standings.
