Sanders takes top-10 finishes to kick off 4th of July weekend
Rodney Sanders competed in three United States Racing Association (USRA)-sanctioned Modified events at three tracks from Wednesday through Saturday, scoring a pair of top-10 finishes along the way.
On Wednesday, Sanders and his No. 20 team visited Fairmont Raceway (Fairmont, Minnesota) for the midweek “Salute to AG.” Sanders was unable to finish his heat race and registered a ninth-place result. He did not start the 15-lap A-Main on the half-mile track.
Sanders next visited Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) on Friday, where he was one of 24 USRA Modified drivers taking part in the RacinDirt.com Thunder Summer Series. After finishing third in his heat, Sanders started 11th in the 30-lap feature event on the 1/3-mile oval. He came home in the sixth spot.
Sanders concluded the weekend at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) for another Thunder Summer Series program. Thirty-six USRA Modified competitors looked to take the $2,000 top prize at the 3/8-mile facility.
After failing to finish his heat race, Sanders advanced to the 30-lap main event by driving from 12th to third in the B-Feature. He started buried in 23rd in the A-Main, but charged forward 16 positions to score a seventh-place result.
