Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series Set for $21,000 to win 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway Monday July 3

SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (June 28, 2023)- The Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Southern Series will return to action on Monday July 3 as the tour and Tazewell Speedway will celebrate America’s birthday a day early on Monday July 3 at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN with the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial presented by Toyota Knoxville, paying $21,000 to win and $1,000 to start the 75-lap main event. This event will be co-sanctioned with Ray Cook’s Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series (the event will be non-points for the Spring Nationals).

The 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial goes at Tazewell Speedway on Monday July 3 and will feature the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series co-sanctioned with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series in a full program of Denby’s J&J Construction Hot Laps, E-Z-GO Time Trials, Heat Races, Impact Race Gear B-Mains, and the 75 lap, $21,000 to win/$1,000 to start 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum main event. Other divisions in competition at the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial event on Monday July 3 at Tazewell Speedway will be the track’s Sportsman division racing for $1,000 to win and Classic Cars division racing for $600 to win. There will also be a fireworks show during the event.

Tazewell Speedway has posted a $2,100 fast time award for the overall top qualifier for the Super Late Model portion of the event provided the driver was pre-entered for the event, which was originally scheduled to place on April 8. The following drivers are pre-entered and are eligible for the $2,100 fast time award: Tyler Erb, Austin Neely, Steve Smith, Ricky Weiss, David Payne, Stacy Boles, Brian Shockley, Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, Dakotah Knuckles, Ryan King, Mack McCarter, Brandon Overton, Ross Bailes, John Llewellyn, Jason Trammell, Carson Ferguson, and Michael Chilton. The race is not limited to just these drivers, as any Super Late Model competitor is welcome to compete in the event.

Activities at Tazewell Speedway on Monday July 3 for the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial will see the pit area open at 2:00 p.m., with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with hot laps set to begin at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway on Monday July 3 in the general admission area will be $30 for adults (children ages 9 and under are free), while a pit pass will be $45 for adults ($35 for children ages 12 and under).

There will be limited camping available on a first come, first serve basis in the main parking lot area and the charge is $20 nightly and campers will pay this fee at the main gate to get camper credentials. There will no personal vehicles or side-by-sides allowed inside, however, there is limited handicap parking spots for spectators in the upper pit area on a first come, first serve basis. Minor release forms are required in the pit area for children under the age of 18, with both parents and the minor required to sign the form at either gate they enter the pit area.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series will co-sanction the event with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series and the tire rule will be as follows: Left Front: Open; Right Front: Hoosier NLMT 2, NLMT 3, or Hoosier 1350 and 1600, American Racer 44, 48, and 56; Left Rear: Hoosier NLMT 2, NLMT 3 or Hoosier Crate 21 and Crate 55, American Racer 44, 48, and 56; Right Rear: Hoosier NLMT 3, NLMT 4 or Hoosier Crate 21 and Crate 55, American Racer 48 and 56. There is no limit on the number of tires used (the droop rule will be in effect, along with the standardized body rules of WoO/Lucas). The entry fee is $150 and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $75 tow money.

This event is held in memory of the late Bill Corum. Lil’ Bill Corum was the winner of more than 300 races and is a Hall of Fame Member at three different tracks. His career spanned from 1959 through 1989 throughout East-Tennessee and North Georgia while winning the first event at Knoxville Raceway, a two-time winner of the Tennessee Dirt Track Championship, and captured the NDRA’s Stroh’s 100 at Atomic Motor Speedway in 1981. Corum also competed in the only ARCA race that was held at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, finishing third in 1973. Corum collected track championships at 411 Motor Speedway, Atomic Motor Speedway, Tazewell Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, Ashway Speedway, Appalachian Speedway and Newport Speedway.
