Top-10 finish in DIRTcar Summer Nationals stop at Kankakee
Making his debut with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Big Frog Motorsports pilot Tyler Clem invaded Peoria Speedway (Peoria, Ill.) on Wednesday afternoon for the 38th edition of the Hell Tour.
In a field of 40 cars, Clem’s sixth-place finish in his heat race relegated him into a B-Main for another shot at the opener. Taking the top-two, Tyler fell short of transfer spot with a fifth-place outing.
For another $5,000-to-win event on Thursday at Kankakee County Speedway (Kankakee, Ill.), Tyler raced his way into the feature with a seventh-to-third run in his heat. Muscling into the top-10, Clem gained three positions in the 40-lap affair to register an eighth-place finish.
On Friday afternoon at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.), Clem got off to a slow start in time trials before passing four cars in his heat to finish fifth. Needing to place second or better in his B-Main to make the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Tyler missed a transfer spot by one car.
With 55 Late Models crammed into the pit area on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), Tyler followed up a seventh-place finish in his heat with an eighth-place outing in his B-Main, ending his night early.
The first week on tour concluded on Sunday at Sycamore Speedway (Maple Park, Ill.) with Clem qualifying for the A-Main via a third-place finish in his heat. With $5,000 on the line, Tyler moved forward one spot to place 11th.
Tyler finished 14th in the first week of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings.
